QI Directors Attend HKGCC’s Luncheon Meeting with Dow Jones & Company CEO and Publisher of The Wall Street Journal
As representatives from QNet, QI Group Managing Director Mr Joseph Bismark and QI Director for International Operations Mr Richard Zinkiewicz together with QNet Hong Kong Country Manager Mr Joseph Lo represented the QI Group at the luncheon meeting with Mr Les Hinton, CEO of Dow Jones & Company and Publisher of The Wall Street Journal. The luncheon was organised by the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce.
Mr Hinton addressed the Chamber members on how Dow Jones has positioned itself to capture the extraordinary revival of Asian businesses after one of the worst investing periods in a generation. Mr Hinton also discussed market trends in the news business and the importance of investing in the digital future of China and in markets across Asia. He stressed that with the overwhelming volume of information available today that is provided through the ever-growing network of delivery platforms, the need for trusted, authoritative news and information has become more essential than ever before.
Here are the most important quotes from Mr Hinton’s speech:
- “It is not enough to be global today. You also need to be local.”
- “There is no one plan, nor the perfect plan, as successful organisations execute and pursue many plans at the same time.”
- “Do your plans based on tomorrow and where you want to be, and not on where you are today.”
- “Embrace the digital age and recognise that today’s free quality content and service will cost tomorrow.”
Mr Les Hinton is a British-born American journalist and businessman and was appointed CEO of Dow Jones & Company in December 2007, after its acquisition by News Corporation. Reporting to News Corporation Chairman Mr Rupert Murdoch, Mr Hinton manages all Dow Jones business units and staff departments worldwide.
