Zob Ahan (IRN) Join Seongnam (KOR) in AFC Champions League Finals
After the first match in the Group Stage in February, we now have the two best teams for the Finals of the AFC Champions League – and it will be a football battle between the East and the West zones!
Iran’s Zob Ahan stunned Saudi champions Al Hilal 1-0 in Riyadh to win their leg of the AFC Champions League Semi-Finals with a 2-0 on aggregate. The Brazilian attacker Igor Castro from Zob Ahan scored early in the second half at the King Fahd International Stadium, ultimately securing the Iranian team a place in the Finals in only their second AFC Champions League campaign!
The surprise doesn’t stop there – Zob Ahan will be joined by South Korea’s Seongnam Ilhwa in the Tokyo Finals on 13 November, 2010, despite Seongnam losing 4-3 in the first leg to Al Shabab. Thirty-one minutes into Seongnam’s Leg 2 game against the Saudi team at the Tancheon Sports Complex, Seongnam player Cho Dong-geon scored the only goal in the game and gave his team a 1-0 victory over Al Shabab, which allowed Seongnam to scrape by into the Finals on the ‘away goals’ rule after drawing a 4-4 aggregate from both legs.
Zob Ahan currently lead the Iran Pro League, and Mansour Ebrahimzadeh’s men will now look to go one better than fellow Esfahan club Sepahan, who lost to Urawa Reds over two legs in the 2007 AFC Champions League final.
The 2010 season of the AFC Champions League is nearing its epic end. As the Official Direct Selling Supporter of the AFC, QNet would like to wish both finalists the best of luck in the Final!
Join us on Saturday, 13 November for the Finals and see which club will win the title of Asian football champion in 2010!
