Narayanan Krishnan – THE WEEK Magazine publishes a Scoop on the Food Samaritan
THE WEEK magazine, the largest-selling English news magazine in India, featured a full-page story of Narayanan Krishnan – CNN Heroes 2010 Award Winner and the V-RYTHM Award 2011 recipient – as a part of its cover story in the latest anniversary edition.Narayanan Krishnan is a bright, young, award-winning chef who worked with a five-star hotel group, and was short-listed for an elite job in Switzerland. On a quick family home visit, he saw a poor man eating his own faeces out of hunger which changed his outlook and direction in life. He gave up his ambitions and started feeding street people. Narayanan founded the Akshaya Trust to serve the homeless and destitute; and today, he delivers three daily meals to 450 people and continues working on his current project – building a rehabilitation centre to give shelter to the destitute.
In V-Malaysia 2011, Narayanan Krishnan won the V-RYTHM Award with a prize of USD 25,000 which recognises humanitarians who epitomise charity, compassion and mercy. Earlier this year, QNET, through the RYTHM Foundation, once again donated USD 40,000 to aid the completion of the Akshaya Home – an eight-block home that will provide shelter to around 450 people.
