Ah-choooooo!!! Familiar sound? If yes, isn’t it so convenient to reach for antibiotics to cure your symptoms? But while bacteria are being killed, what makes you sure that it’s not going to disrupt your body’s functioning?
Being germ-free is not always the best answer. In fact, research suggests that exposure to germs are a necessary part of a healthy immune system (Read more about this on abcnews.com).
What about when you’re stressed? That bag of potato chips, those desserts, that macaroni and cheese… Yummmm! Just like heaven on your tongue, right? But foods that comfort your emotion do not always comfort your health. Especially when you know that the (not so) hidden trans fats can raise bad cholesterol (LDL) and lower good cholesterol (HDL).
Does this information cause you to panic? Calm down and take a deep breath and let the air run through your body and clear your mind. By the way, did you know that when we inhale, our body’s cells use oxygen to produce energy but at the same produce free radicals as a natural by-product? Free radicals damage parts of cells such as proteins, DNA and cell membranes by stealing their electrons through a process called oxidation causing eventually causing the cell to die.
So what can we do? We certainly can’t stop breathing. Our health is vulnerable to harm from the effects of a weak immune system, high cholesterol and free radicals, all of which can worsen as we age.
To ‘live’ is not defined by only the actions of breathing, eating and moving, especially when we are living in unhealthy conditions. What if we could make it better? If we could ‘Feel Alive’?
