A common presumption is that developed nations do not suffer the same problems as the rest of the world. The term ‘First World Problems’ is often used jokingly to highlight less serious problems that the rest of the world would probably roll their eyes at. At first glance, you wouldn’t think that a country as industrialised as America would not face basic issues relating to water and sanitation. However, a recent study has shown that a jaw-dropping number (millions!) of Americans drink unsafe water without realising it.

According to the study, millions of Americans have been drinking water with extremely unsafe levels of industrial chemicals, chemicals that have been linked to high cholesterol, obesity, hormone suppression, and cancer. These chemicals, called PSAS, are a group of man-made chemicals that degrade really slowly, and are invisible, therefore pass off in your drinking water without your notice.

These chemicals, once consumed, remain in your body for years, and gets stored in your blood serum, liver, and other organs.  Scientists have not yet been able to compile a list of all the long-term health effects of these invisible toxins, and believe that it could take up to three and a half years for your body to get rid of just half the amount of the chemicals you ingest. A related study by Harvard T H Chan School of Public Health suggests that these same PSASs affect children’s immune systems.

These recurring incidents of water crises worldwide makes it even more important for us to invest in a high quality, certified water filter. There are an incredible number drinking water contaminants in tap water, and we can’t be 100% sure about bottled drinking water either. Make HomePure your drinking water solution.
