QNET celebrated our humanitarian and corporate icon’s legacy with a #Gandhi150 inspired Gandhi Week in Hong Kong. The week of events included among other things sharing stories from Gandhi’s illustrious life, learning about how to translate his life-changing teachings into real-life actions, and exploring all the reasons why Gandhi is QNET’s corporate icon. #Gandhi150 is also a call to action for QNET to contribute positively in the communities we are currently active in.
Here are some events we were a part of during Gandhi Week.
The #Gandhi150 Unveiling Ceremony
QNET CEO Malou Caluza and QNET Executive Chairman Richard Zinkiewicz unveiled a motivational new look at the Hong Kong Corporate office that included inspirational posters that were daily reminders Gandhi’s brilliant mind and teachings. Seeing it every day was a reminder to our staff to lead by example and to embody Gandhi’s philosophies.
QNET staff gathered in the Hong Kong board room to share in a vegetarian pot luck lunch while watching documentaries about the Mahatma. The activity was for both the mind and the body, and led to some exciting discussions on how to keep Gandhi’s legacy alive in 2019 and the years that follow.
QNET staff gathered together as part of Gandhi Week in Hong Kong to share and discuss their thoughts on their favourite teachings from Gandhi, their key takeaways from his life and his work. They also discussed how to apply these lessons into their everyday lives, and how best they can share the message with their friends, family and our IRs.
QNET Network Specialist Vish Reekhaye said, “Gandhi influenced many minds and continues to share humanity today by inspiring us to be better. He once said ‘Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.’ That quote really resonates with me. When our words and actions are not aligned, we essentially tell others that we cannot be trusted, which in turn chips away at our self-esteem. Feeling good about yourself and your projects is the foundation for positive thinking and living a happy life.”
“My favourite Gandhi quote is ‘Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.’”, said QNET Data Analytics Team Lead Ken Chan, “It encourages me to treasure what I have now and to keep learning until the day I die”
QNET Acting Head of Business Solutions – Africa, Arti Asawa, shared her thoughts on Gandhi! “I admire Mahatma Gandhi for so many reasons. But one of the most inspiring qualities is his simplicity. He was a simple man who was also highly intellectual. Despite having been a politician, his lifestyle didn’t reflect any luxuries. He lived simply and focussed on trying to help in any way he could. He gave his 100% to everyone he worked with and to every project he was involved in. He practised what he preached and was able to he followed his rule in life of satyawad or honesty and he had the ability to influence people with his words of wisdom, and to never let his anger show while dealing with difficult people or situations. There is a reason he is called the Father of The Nation. QNET’s philosophies and beliefs are a reflection of Gandhi’s and there is no other person who’s better suited to being our idol than him.”
#Gandhi150 Donation Drive
QNET Staff donated books and pre-loved clothing to those in need as a way to show our commitment to our core value of RYTHM – Raise Yourself To Help Mankind. It was also a good way to take stock of our material goods and give away our excess clothes to those who are in real need.
Used Book Recycling Campaign
QNET staff volunteered their services at the World Vision Used Book Recycling Fair at Hollywood Plaza, Diamond Hill in Hong Kong. At the fair, the books we had collected during Gandhi week were sold to the public. We also volunteered with sorting out books, packing, refilling display shelves, tidying up and crowd control. Apart from this, QNET staff also manned the cash registers and helped answer visitor enquiries.
