The Direct Selling scenario in Malaysia, in a nutshell has been described as having gone ‘from Zero to Hero’.
Yes, it was revealed today that Malaysia has risen to become the eighth biggest direct selling market in the world with total industry sales in 2012 amounting to USD 3.3 billion, thanks to the efforts undertaken by the national trade association, the Direct Selling Association of Malaysia (DSAM).
Through the years, DSAM has gone through many phases of the industry and working closely with the Malaysian Government, has elevated this industry to what it is today.
DSAM has 64 members, including QNET, and this year, DSAM is celebrating its 35th anniversary . To mark the occasion, it organised the DSAM Convention and Gala Dinner 2013 held in Kuala Lumpur today.
The convention was attended by 300 members including Mr Alessandro Carlucci, Chairman of the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations.
QNET Leaders Take Top Awards
The Highlight of the convention was the Outstanding Entrepreneurs Awards where the top independent representatives from DSAM member companies were recognised for their performance.
Receiving the awards for QNET were AVP Mohan Chidambaram, AVP Suresh Perumal and VC Simon Cheung.
As for the Blue Print, which is expected to lead to the liberalisation of the industry by 2020, its main goals are to transform the direct selling industry and make it a career choice or main source of income (with average monthly income of active independent representatives being RM 4,000).
It also wants to make available direct selling related courses in centres of higher learning and contributing to national income of RM 20 billion by 2020. Besides that, the Blue Print aims to provide an in-depth public understanding and trust of the industry. Overall, it wants to establish Malaysia as a regional hub for direct selling.
Mr. Frederick Ng, President of DSAM, thanked the Malaysian government for providing legitimacy for the direct selling industry.
