Even with QNET Trackside, Yesterday proved a Struggle
Marussia didn’t fare as well as hoped yesterday but they’re not sulking with sights already turned to the 2014 Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix this weekend!
In Malaysia yesterday, Max Chilton closed in on Marcus Ericsson, from long-time rival Caterham, but had to settle for 15th place.
“We had a close battle with Ericsson and towards the end we were very close and pushing him all the way to the line, eventually ending up just 0.1s adrift,” says Max.
Marussia’s other driver, Jules who is originally from France, was sadly unable to finish. The FIA summed up his predicament like this:
“Jules Bianchi’s Marussia was damaged by a first-lap clash with Pastor Maldonado’s Lotus, triggered by the Frenchman’s rear tyre making contact with Vergne’s front wing. Bianchi felt unfortunate to be the first driver to be given one of the new five-second stop and go penalities for his part in that.”
With Round 3 coming up fast, Claudio Albertini (Head of Customer Teams Power Unit Operations, Scuderia Ferrari) says Marussia is focussing on the positives and going straight into preparations for Bahrain.
“We are preparing for a new challenge, in Bahrain, where we have a known starting point, since we have a lot of data coming from pre-season testing on the Sakhir track. The conditions will be different but the experience gained in these first two Grand Prix will be very helpful,” says Claudio.
