In their first night race experience, Marussia’s two drivers Max and Jules finished the 2013 Formula 1™ Singtel Singapore Grand Prix in 17th and 18th positions respectively.

“The race was a challenging one for the whole Team due to a combination of

the intense humidity, an early gear shift problem for Jules and a heavy emphasis on

tyre management throughout the race. We’re pleased that it was another two car finish and we leave Singapore with our position in the Constructors’ Championship still intact.”

Max had his first Singapore outing only last year in which he won one of two support races.

Jules wasn’t quite so churpy, “I was hoping for better today but the first half of the race didn’t go at all well for me. Just as I was stopping for the first time I lost the gears but we stopped again to change the steering wheel and the problem thankfully went away. The second stint was tough because I was so far back by then and it was looking like it would be a very long and lonely race. When the Safety Car came out it helped enormously as we were able to catch up and unlap ourselves.

“Working to European hours is always interesting,” says Chilton, “but I’ve seen the floodlights first-hand so I know that while it feels like night-time in the Paddock, it’s like daylight on the track,” says Max

Singapore is such a challenge that only World Champions have ever won there! Alonso in 2008 and 2010 (he was World Champion in 2005-06), Lewis Hamilton in 2009 (World Champion in 2008) and Vettel in 2011012 (he was World Champion in 2010-11-12).

Singapore’s is the longest Grand Prix of the year. It’s also the race where the cars start with their heaviest fuel load, due in part to the stop-start nature of a 23-turn layout and the almost constant acceleration out of corners.
