In yet another concerted effort to give back to the community where its headquarters is located, QNet Malaysia, in cooperation with the Vijayaratnam Foundation, recently sponsored a 3-day/2-night family trip for five kids from the Petaling Utama District at the Prana Resorts & Spa in Koh Samui, Thailand. The trip was awarded to the children for being the grand prize winners of an ‘Earth Day’ art competition made in conjunction with the 1 Murid 1 Pokok (One Pupil, One Tree) programme.

The children and their families pose in front of Prana Resorts & Spa after enjoying a full day of activities.

The 1 Murid 1 Pokok programme, the brainchild of the Mayor of Petaling Jaya, involves the planting, caring and nurturing of a tree by a child until he or she graduates from primary school. Forty-five schools around the Petaling Jaya Utama district have been shortlisted for the programme which will result to the planting of over 6,000 trees.

The young winners and their families were exposed to fun and learning activities during their stay at the boutique resort which included learning about Prana’s active role in green projects, growing hydroponic vegetables, preparing gourmet vegetarian recipes, and experiencing a full-day nature adventure tour around the island which included a trekking climb into the jungle, elephant trekking, and a live crocodile show.

The three winners who took the prize holiday from 24-26 September 2010 were seven-year-olds Akmal Hazim bin Safri from SK Seksyen 6 Kota Damansara, Kanageswary Selvasugumaran from SK Sri Petaling, and Natalia Faritz Sallehudin from SK Assunta. Muhammad Daniel Haiqal Bakordin from SK (2) Petaling Jaya and Nur Natasha HaanimAzmi from SK Assunta (2) opted to take the family trip at a later date.

QNet Malaysia and the Vijayaratnam Foundation would like to once again congratulate the winners and their families. Green efforts can have its green rewards!
