Making connections can be a valuable tool for any business, but it is especially important for those in direct selling. For busy parents, this can be a challenge. In my personal experience as a professional and a parent, I have learnt that with some strategic planning and prioritisation, it’s possible to make new and keep existing connections, also called ‘networking’, a regular part of your routine.

In this article, I discuss the importance of networking for direct selling success and share tips on how busy parents can find the time to create lasting connections successfully based on my own journey to CEO.

The Importance of Making Connections

Direct selling involves building relationships with customers, and networking is a key way to build those relationships. Networking helps you meet new people, get to know them better, and establish rapport. It allows you to build trust by demonstrating your knowledge and expertise and by being authentic and transparent.

Once you have the skill of networking down, you can generate referrals from satisfied customers, expand your network globally, stay current on industry trends and best practices, and even establish credibility as a thought leader and expert in the industry. Networking is a great way to share your knowledge and expertise and demonstrate your credibility and expertise in your field.

Networking Challenges Busy Parents Face

One of the primary challenges that busy parents face while networking is a lack of time. Busy parents often have to juggle work and family responsibilities, making it difficult to find time to network effectively. They may not always be available to network during regular business hours, making it difficult to schedule meetings or attend events that are scheduled during the day. Some busy parents may even find it difficult to connect with others in their industry or profession. This can be due to a lack of networking skills, shyness, or difficulty breaking the ice.

Networking on a Time Crunch: Tips for Busy Parents

If you are a busy parent who struggles with any of the challenges away, here are a few tips to help get the ball rolling.

  1. Create a bespoke network

Identify potential contacts who are also fellow parents and potential allies in the direct selling business. Approach and initiate a conversation with contacts who understand your need for flexibility – the direct selling industry is the perfect opportunity for this. Make sure to maintain and nurture these relationships over time.

  1. Schedule networking activities

Set aside specific times for networking activities, such as attending events or scheduling meetings. This helps to prioritise networking events that align with your daily routines and ensures that it doesn’t get overlooked in the midst of a busy schedule.

  1. Utilise online networking

Online networking through social media platforms or professional networks like LinkedIn can be a great option for busy parents. It allows for flexibility and can be done during any free time in the day, such as during a commute or while waiting for an appointment. Be sure to read the QNET Social Media guide for creating a strong online presence and leveraging these platforms to build your network.

Networking is a powerful tool for direct selling business success, and as a busy parent, it’s important to make it a priority. By following these tips, you can find the time to network effectively, build valuable relationships, and achieve your goals in direct sales and beyond.  So, whether you’re attending networking events, engaging with others online, or simply making time for coffee with a colleague, remember the value of building relationships and making connections. It can be the key to unlocking your full potential as a busy parent and entrepreneur.
