At QNET, we choose our associations with a lot of care, and one such association is our title sponsorship of the QNET Gurkha Trailblazer. Coming in for the second year, on the 12th of January 2019, in Hong Kong, this charity race is all set to support the bravest of the brave.
The QNET Gurkha Trailblazer charity run is named in honour of fallen Nepalese soldiers known as Gurkhas. These soldiers were recruited to the British army, and put their lives on the line while fighting as British soldiers on multiple warfronts worldwide. The Gurkhas have cemented their reputation for valour while serving as frontline troops, and have also contributed greatly to preserving the stability of Hong Kong during the period of 1948 – 1997, by defending the border and actively providing humanitarian support during environmental catastrophes.
Keeping with the spirit of the event, the race will cover two distances – 12/26 km in the eastern New Territories, within the Pat Sin Leng country Park. This beautiful trail is where Gurkha regiments also regularly held their “Bulldog” trainings and war simulation exercises.
Speaking on the association, QNET Chairman, Richard Zinkiewicz said, “We’re ecstatic to be sponsoring the QNET Gurkha Trailblazer for the second time. At QNET, we live by the concept of Absolute Living and RYTHM (Raising Yourself To Help Mankind), and we believe that health is the biggest wealth of all. We believe in endurance, persistence, and fighting to achieve excellence. But most importantly, giving back is the reason why we exist. The Gurkha Trailblazer embodies everything that we believe in. This is why when we came across the idea of the Gurkha Trailblazer, we knew it is the perfect fit,”
The QNET Gurkha Trailblazer event has become a well-known addition to Hong Kong’s wide variety of charitable runs. The sport’s popularity has takenoff in recent years and has attracted prestigious runners from all over the globe. The race also brought home the ‘Best New Race’ award at the 2018 Gonerunning Hong Kong Trail Running Awards!
The spirit of the event ensures that all the proceeds from the QNET Gurkha Trailblazer race donated to the Child Welfare Scheme (CWS), to assist in developing schools in Nepal and fund young Nepalese students with High School Diploma Scholarships. In addition, the funds will also help preserve and promote Gurkha history for future generations to come.
Around 300 eager runners from many countries have registered to participate in the upcoming QNET Gurkha Trailblazer race to pay their tribute to Gurkha history, and to remember the lasting impact they’ve made to world peace.
